What we know
In 2020, the Ball Ground Police Department answered a Georgia Open Records Act request by sharing a report from Vigilant Solutions (a surveillance vendor like Flock). It lists the more than 170 agencies it shared its plate detections with, in dozens of states, including the San Diego Sector Border Patrol and a federal drug-trafficking task force.
Closer to home, the same list includes the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Woodstock, Holly Springs, Nelson, and Roswell. The plate readers in these cities have been pooling with each other for years. Ball Ground was also receiving detections from more than 270 agencies, including ICE, Customs and Border Protection, the DEA and the ATF.
How much of that is still running? Hard to say, but a newer open records request might answer.
Closer to the present: on March 25th, 2026, Ball Ground announced a School Zone Speed Enforcement Program at Ball Ground Elementary School STEM Academy in partnership with RedSpeed. It runs only on school days, from an hour before school to an hour after, and only when school is in session. But how far does that data travel?
