Canceled. On July 13th, 2026, the council voted unanimously to remove the cameras, after Councilman Nathan Hamby raised Fourth Amendment concerns. The contract was roughly $10,000 a year for five years, for four cameras.
One camera still appears within Cherokee County limits in OpenStreetMap, as of July 30th, 2026. That is either stale data or owned by someone else - let us know if you find out!
Standing up against warrantless mass surveillance, especially when you're the first in the county to do so, requires bravery. If you do write to them, say thank you.
